A Look Back at Week 1

After the first week back, I have realized that this is going to be the busiest summer of my life! I have so much reading and writing to do for my two classes. I have to cram all of the classwork into my weekends because during the week I have my internship at the planetarium everyday, followed by working on fiber optic research in the astronomy department, volunteering at freshman preview to promote my dance company Floridance, and in about a month I start teaching at a dance studio a few days a week.

Are any of you guys this busy? or busier?! I could use a venting buddy, lol.

So yeah, I really like the planetarium so far. The younger groups of kids that come in get so excited, its adorable! And, for my project I might be able to create my own original show... I am starting to think about ideas...It doesn't necessarily have to be about Astronomy either...It can be about the weather, the ocean, geology, etc....let me know if you guys have any suggestions! Especially if we do the field trip thing and you want to see something specific!

  1. Hey Dina!

Girl, I feel you so hard with the busy factor. I'm taking 4 classes this summer (including biochem and physics 2), along with my internship and research too. This week I quickly came to the same conclusion you did, about getting all my homework done during the weekend.

Your internship sounds so interesting. I always pass by the astronomy viewing deck at UF and think about going during one of the viewing nights they have, but I've never gone yet. I didn't even know that Santa Fe had a planetarium. How do you create a show? Is it pictures that are projected? Or film? Is there narration? It sounds like whatever you're doing is going to be really interesting!

    1. I would try to create a show myself, kind of like doing a powerpoint presentation except way cooler... We have movies that are narrated by famous people like Tom Hanks, and stuff... but we also have shows that are personally narrated by the people who work at the planetarium..

  2. Dina, I don't know how you are going to do it all! That seems intense, and I'm sure your summer will fly by because of it though. I bet you like working with the kids in a subject you like. I'm also interested in knowing how you create the shows. Are they like short movies?

    1. some of the shows are like short movies, which I think were created by actual movie makers....other shows have been created by the director or his assitants and are like lecturing and giving a powerpoint presentation, except the dome becomes the powerpoint
